MAGAZINE PLAN

my magazine will be a similar style to Vanity fair and Marie Claire, it will have a restricted colour palette throughout each page to make it look eye-catching as well as sophisticated. I will have an image of the main actress in my show  posing as a well known celebrity, the image I use will be a close-up to ensure her face is the main focus if the image. She will be posing in front of a plain background to avoid any attention being drawn away from her face and the text on the page. For my 2 page spread I will include a full page picture of the actress, s well as other smaller images which are less sophisticated than the front cover and will show her personality so that the readers can feel as if they can engage with her. A format similar to vanity fair would be good as a style for my magazine because my show will be mainly aimed at a young, female audience because of the relatable, young, female character as the lead.

Front Cover:

title: shade
price: £3.99
cover line: ruby Buchan on her role in ITV's new crime drama
other cover line ideas:
  • 50 products you need in your beauty routine
  • the secret diet you need to know
  • inside celebrity divorces
  • the history behind the most famous pieces of art in the world

Double Page Spread

  • more images of lead actress
  • 1 page filled with single image
  • title and intro onto on large image
  • interview with actress

Marie Claire article
  • uses modern slang 'slay' 'vibes'
  • refers to writer in first person
  • briefly introduces subject before interview

plan:
  • ask questions that will give detailed answers
  • how does this project differ to other you've worked on?
  • what do you like about your character?
  • what was it like on set?

This is similar to the main cast photoshoot I will produce. the characters will wear smart clothes and glamourous makeup. the actors will pose close together and look professional and sophisticated in their poses. for my photoshoot, I am planning to try using a hairdryer to create a wind effect to see if I like the effect it creates.

for my whole cast photoshoot I will produce an image similar to this where the cast all interact with each other and show their personalities. the actors are wearing fairly casual clothing with natural hair and makeup which makes them appear familiar and relatable.

this is the sort of double page spread I want to produce, it contains a fun image of the whole cast and a more serious picture of the main characters as well. there is a clear colour scheme across the 2 pages which makes the magazine look sophisticated and appealing.

Desperately searching for an exciting new show to dive into this month? Well ITV has got you covered! Starting at 9 this Tuesday you can tune in to ITV’s brand new crime drama- Finesse. To get an idea about the show we sat down with its main star Ruby Buchan.

So how does this project differ to other you've worked on?

I think this one was much more complex, there were loads more techniques used like in editing and camera so filming was a lot less straight forward

Would you say that this was one of your more difficult projects then?

Not at all, the director, had a really clear view on what she wanted and how she wanted it done, and that’s always nice as an actor. The more clear instructions and descriptions you get from the director, the easier the project is. So the actual production was flowed really well

You’ve said before that this character is one of your favourites that you’ve played, what is it you like so much about her?

I just think she’s great you know? She’s so cool and sly, and always one step ahead of everyone else, she always one-ups people. Audiences are going to find her really entertaining to watch, I think she’s a very empowering character so it’ll be good for viewers to see such a strong and clever female character which is the sort of role you don’t really see in crime dramas.

What was it like on set?

They were all great, I know it’s so cliché for actors to say that they love their cast members and all that but we genuinely got along so well, I honestly couldn’t have asked for better co-workers. I really love it when I’m able to get along with the people I work with because things like press tours and premieres so much more fun when you feel like one big friendship group, and with this show the whole cast, even the production crew were all amazing to work with, so I’m really grateful I got this opportunity, I feel very lucky to have met and worked with them.

About the premiere- how do you think people are going to react to this show?

I honestly think they’ll love it, the way I’ve heard the planning of what’s going to happen and the whole vibe that it’s got I really think they’ll enjoy it. It’s a really different and unique kind of show so I think audiences will find it very refreshing. It’s been such an interesting production and I really hope that people like it because there’s been so much work and effort put into it, it really deserves the recognition. I mean, I’ve only seen a few scenes that were done and finished, but from them I great.

Now, just over a year ago you had done no work in TV, now you the lead in one of the most anticipated TV shows this year, how has life changed?

The first big change was when my first film got released, it was like overnight I gained so much recognition it was like being hit in the face with a bowling ball! I had no idea how to handle it, I mean, I’d been preparing myself for weeks because I knew the production was gonna be a big deal, but there’s really nothing you can do to be fully ready for that. And now, since the announcement of finesse it feels like I’m being hit with the same wave again. This is by far the biggest project I’ve worked on, I’ve never been filming for this amount of time before, and the job is so much more intense, the hours are longer and the role is way more complex than anything I’ve done before. Also, since getting this role I feel like I’m taken much more seriously as an actor, I’m suddenly seeing my face everywhere and being asked to appear in different places, it’s a really nice feeling, like I’ve finally made it.

Finally, where will you be when the first episode airs?

Id like to think I’m strong-willed enough to avoid watching it and wait to see people’s reactions after, but I feel like, realistically, I’ll be in front of the TV counting down the minutes until it starts!
