THEORY

My audio visual piece will fit into Todorov's narrative theory because it features a key turning point in  which would act as the disruption within the episode. Another theorist whose ideas fit with my work is  Steve Neal, his theory that genre is dominated by repetition will be enforced by the characters in the show committing a crime, making it fit into the crime drama genre. Hall suggested that there are 3 ways an audience can intemperate text: through the preferred reading, negotiated reading and oppositional reading. The preferred reading for my audio-visual piece would be to idolise the 2 main characters' confidence and skill because it is something that people will never be able to experience out of fear of the consequences. A preferred audience will find the act of committing a crime cool and edgy, and will admire those qualities, they will also be open minded and try to view the situation from the point of view of the main characters, so they will be able to see the people who do them wrong as the antagonists and think that the 2 girls are in the right for seeing revenge. The opposed reading to my show would be an authoritarian personality who respects and prioritises the law, meaning that they would not approve of the characters committing crimes and view them and antagonists who are reckless and cruel for robbing people.
