TEXTUAL ANALYSIS- SIMILAR TV SHOWS
SHAMELESS
Although shameless is not a crime drama, it contains a lot of criminal activity being carried out by the main characters (mainly stealing) , these are often showed through fast paced editing and fast, upbeat music. the way that these crimes are represented is very different and unique to other crimes seen in TV, they are often played down and appear normal. the characters that commit these crimes often do them in a very clever and interesting way which makes them enjoyable to watch. Shameless represents people living in poverty, it can be enjoyed by any audiences of any cross-cultural consumer characteristics because they can either relate to struggling with money or feel superior to the characters. The representation of the characters shows people who live with their lifestyle as strong, supportive and creative which in fun and enjoyable to watch for all audiences.

the TV show I want to create will be similar to the style of peaky
blinders because it is a successful crime dramas which I enjoy.
how it appeals to its audience:
Peaky Blinders offers a unique perspective of crime drama because
it is based on the life of a criminal rather than the detective trying to find
them, this makes it more interesting to audiences because it is perceived as
new and exciting. The show is set in Birmingham in the 1920s, this also adds to
its unique selling point because most crime dramas are set in the modern day. Although
the series is set many years in the past, it used modern music instead of 20s
style music, this makes it more enjoyable because audiences are more likely to
enjoy soundtracks that has a familiar style. The music used in this show also
helps to effectively set the mood for a scene as the show is about gangsters
and the music is often very upbeat and low to create the idea that they are
rebellious as well as idolising the characters by making them seem
superior.
- jump cuts
- freeze frame
- upbeat, diegetic music
- short clips
